| | or more. Since each slide is displayed for 6 seconds a group of 100 slides will last 10 minutes. Too many small groups can make your slide show cumbersome to view.
If you'd like your slide groups put onto the DVD in a particular order you can number your groups in the order you'd like them.
You can also give each slide group a name and that will become the chapter name we will display in the DVD table of contents (see Table of Contents example). Simply print the group name on a piece of paper and securely attach it to the group of slides. Alternatively, if your groups are numbered you can list your group names on a separate piece of paper along with the corresponding group number. See an example of how this can be done. In either case PLEASE PRINT CLEARLY!
A shoe box full of slides:
If your slides are loose in a shoe box chances are very good no one will ever view them again. What a shame! You could spend many hours trying to get them organized before you mail them off to us and of course you're welcome to do that but it really isn't necessary! Even a slide show with absolutely no order whatsoever will bring back fond memories to the viewers. Consider having a "random collage of family memories" created from your slides. Your family will be thrilled to see "the old pictures" again. All you need to do is count how many slides you have, select the background music you prefer and then you can move onto step 2, filling out the order form.
A completely organized and categorized slide collection in carousels:
Yes perfectly organized collections are rare but they do exist! All you have to do is make sure it's clear what order we should process your carousels by numbering them (masking tape works well), provide a chapter name for each carousel (if desired), count the number of slides you have, select the background music you prefer and you're ready to move on to step 2, filling out the order form.
Note: You're welcome to leave your slides in the carousels however postage on a large number of carousels can be quite expensive. 140 slides in a carousel weighs approximately 2lbs 8 oz while 140 slides in a plastic ziplock bag weighs only 9 oz. If you have a lot of carousels you might want to consider removing the slides from the carousels.
Something in between the above two situations:
Most families fall into this group. You have some slides in carousels, some in those little cardboard boxes from the film processor and some loose in a box. You're doing a wonderful thing by transferring these slides to a DVD! Odds are very good the collection of slides you have would never be viewed again.
In a situation like this the slides are already in groups. Each group is a carousel, the film processor boxes full of slides and the box of loose slides. If you'd like, you can send them to us as they are and we'll make each group into a chapter on the DVD and that would make a very nice "movie". Remember, we suggest a group contain 100 slides or more so we don't make a separate chapter for every slide processor box full of slides (typically 24 or 36 slides). We treat the slides in ALL the film processing boxes as one group. If you have a lot of film processor boxes full of slides then you should divide them into groups by rubber banding several of these processing boxes together. Again, try to have a group contain at least 100 slides so your slide show isn't too choppy.
If you'd prefer (but this isn't necessarily worth the effort) you can try to put your groups of slides in some type of order. By looking at a few slides from each group you might be able to tell which group belongs before or after another group of slides. Most slides have the processing date printed on them. If you do this with all the groups you have and number each group we'll transfer the groups in the order you provide. Regardless, if you choose to put your groups in order or not you'll need to count how many slides you have, select the background music you prefer and then you can move on to step 2 filling out the order form.
In addition to transferring the groups in the order you specify, we will also transfer the individual slides within each group in the order you provide them. In the case of carousels we will follow the numbering scheme on the tray. If you rubber band your slides into stacks we will maintain the order of the slides in the stack (please indicate which end of the stack to start with). As long as you provide the slides to us in a clear order we will follow it but we cannot sort your slides for you and we will not attempt to follow the number imprinted on the slide by the film processor (some don't have a number or are unreadable). If you want the slides in a particular order you have to provide them to us in that order.

1) DIVIDE YOUR SLIDES INTO GROUPS (optional)
A few FYI's before you get started ...
YOUR GROUPS OF SLIDES BECOME SLIDE SHOW CHAPTERS Just as a book may contain a table of contents that lists the chapters in the book the DVDs we create will display a "table of contents" when you insert the DVD into your player. The DVD table of contents displays a small thumbnail image of one of the slides in the chapter. You can then select the chapter you're interested in by clicking on its thumbnail (see Table of Contents example). In order to create a DVD table of contents we need to know what slides constitute a chapter. You do this by dividing your slides into "groups". We wll create a chapter for every group of slides you provide us.
3) SPECIFY THE ORDER OF YOUR GROUPS (optional)
2) GIVE YOUR SLIDE GROUPS NAMES (optional)
4) ARRANGE THE SEQUENCE OF YOUR INDIVIDUAL SLIDES (optional)
It is completely up to you to decide how much time and effort you want to put into organizing your slides. Any or all of the four steps listed below can be skipped. Organizing your slides is NOT REQUIRED!
